General Program Information
North Bay Theatrics (NBT) is a nonprofit theater company based in Cotati, CA, serving students from Sonoma County and beyond. Our mission is to create an inclusive and supportive environment where every student feels valued, encouraged, and inspired, regardless of their role, financial situation, or prior experience. We never turn a student away for financial reasons.
Participation & Casting
Every registered student is guaranteed a role in the production. We give every actor a unique character name and moment in the spotlight, no “Tree #3” here. Casting is based on finding the best way for each student to grow, learn, and shine. We do not cast based on size or gender, and every student is considered for every role.
Auditions help us match roles to students, but participation is never dependent on auditioning. If your child does not want to audition, they can still be in the show and have meaningful stage time.
We understand students often want to participate in NBT alongside other activities, but theater is a team effort and consistent attendance is key to building the show. We prefer to work with students who can commit to the entire rehearsal process. Sharing or splitting time between other rehearsals, sports commitments, or programs is not ideal and may result in recasting. For example, if a student wants to attend only Monday rehearsals but not Wednesday rehearsals, we ask that they choose one program to fully commit to. We are completely okay if that choice is the other program, as we want students to have the best experience possible.
Rehearsals
We can work around occasional conflicts if noted in advance. However, frequent absences, especially during scene-specific rehearsals, can affect a student’s role and readiness for performances.
Tech Week is the final week of rehearsals before performances. This is when costumes, lights, sound, sets, and all final cues come together. Attendance is critical for all tech week rehearsals. Missing these rehearsals may result in reduced stage time for safety and continuity.
Performances are the culmination of the entire program and a commitment to the cast and crew. Missing a performance is strongly discouraged and should only happen in emergencies.
Rehearsals include:
- A warm-up activity to build focus and energy
- Scene or musical number work, often in small groups
- Choreography and blocking practice
- Occasional costume fittings, prop work, or tech elements
Students may not be on stage every minute, but all rehearsal time is valuable for learning and building the show.
Performances & Venues
